I've been connected to LTE coverage on Softbank here in the Narita area of Japan for about a day during a layover. Both my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 have stayed connected once I selected the carrier and got outside the terminal buildings at NRT. Data is still the slow Intl free roaming speeds as expected.
My LG flex kept asking if I wanted to use data roaming (even when it was already selected as an option) pretty much every time I woke it from sleep when I was out and about - usually connected to softbank. It did work after I verified yes to roaming (annoying to have to keep accepting roaming - don't know if this is a problem for this phone b/c I've had this problem in Spain as well)
