I do Oz about twice a year. Unlike most here, I don't have a particular strategy when it comes to the flight, I just sleep when I am tired and try not to worry about whether it is the right or wrong time.
However, my only strategy upon arrival is to make sure that I "make" my time difference Westbound type (ie sleep early wake up early) as I find that the antipodean difference allows me to choose. Once I arrive, if on a morning flight, I force myself to stay awake till about 5pm and then I fall asleep whenever I'm tired and wake up naturally in the middle of the night. I don't try to force myself to fall back asleep but on the second day, again, I forbid myself any nap until early evening and then fall asleep early. Usually, I am over the jetlag within 48 hours. If arriving on an evening flight, I go straight to be and then same as above.
I personally like breaking the journey on the way back. It makes it easier to restart the "normal" routine upon arrival. Enjoy Oz, it's a wonderful country!
