The Qantas statement is entirely correct. You do not have to rummage through your pocket or your bag. Because you know your watch is on your wrist. It is easy to find your watch, on your wrist. Qantas did not say anything about being able to leave your watch on your wrist, it just said the device containing your boarding pass could be found on your wrist. If your wrist is too fat and you cannot fit it in the scanner, then you take your watch off, but Qantas did not say you would not need to take your watch off, they just said you could find your boarding pass on your wrist, not in your bag.
