Staying same night in two different time zones? - possible, but overlapping stay

On a recent holiday my Diamond husband and I stayed at two hilton hotels in different cities/countries with a 6 hour time difference. we flew out of the first city at midnight local time, arriving at the second city at 6.30am local time. Not wanting to chance a very late check-out from the first hotel and a very early check-in at the second, we booked an extra night, the same night, in each city. Hilton got two extra paid nights from us and we were able to rest, shower and change after a full day out at the end of our stay in the first city and then go straight to our room to sleep on arrival in the second city.

The only downside was that the second stay posted with zero points. I emailed Hilton Honors on behalf of my husband explaining the situation. I said that although the dates of both stays were overlapping, thanks to the time difference and an international flight he was definitely in both hotels for significant parts of the one night in question, so please could they credit the points.

They wrote back saying they had investigated our stay at the second hotel and, surprise surprise,
"We found another hotel stay already posted with similar or overlapping dates."
and
"A member must be the physically registered and paying guest in order to receive credit for a qualifying stay. As a service gesture, we are pleased to make an exception and have awarded credit for the additional stay."

This 'exception' and 'service gesture' resulted in over 9.5K points being credited for the two night stay. But they made it sound as though they hadn't even bothered to read my email and that they were doing my husband a big favour rather than crediting what was rightly earned!

So much for rewarding loyalty. We will stay in a different hotel at the second city next time, to avoid having to rely on such kind gestures.
