if no, then all Qantas has donethat I can see is to write an application that runs on it and not responsible if there are issues using it. The boarding card readers predate the watch - it isn't as if Qantas brought these readers out specifically for the apple watch is it? If it did, then I agree that Qantas messed up
I suppose Qantas could have just not released an application to run on it, but then there would still have been complaints if it hadn't
If the watch is placed under the scanner, the scanner seems to be able to read it from what I read - so seems to be a functioning application
As far as how the apple watch wearers are supposed to use it as asked in one message on twitter --- hmm, take the watch off
Perhaps Qantas would just be better off removing the boarding pass feature from its watch application given that it seems that it isn't an ideal medium
You simply do not get it do you Dave? This is product development 101 mixed with Marketing for Dummies - can my product do what I said it will do? Research says no. OK Marketing, don't promote that, it does not work.
Qantas have heavily promoted "
And say goodbye to rummaging through pockets or bags for your boarding pass, it’s now easily accessible on your wrist""
Whilst Qantas designed neither the watch nor the scanners, somewhere in the earliest product development meeting one of the questions that should have been asked was "will it fit?" It would have taken all of 15 seconds for a guy with a tape measure to realise that no, it will not.
By not researching their products properly one of the main features of their app is worthless.
There was no need for complaints from travellers unable to use the watch as a boarding pass if in the same Qantas release they said something to the effect that "at this stage you will not be able to use your watch as a boarding pass because you will not fit your wrist under the scanner".
It is simply another example of poor Qantas research and release of a non function product promising to deliver things that it can not.
