I have missed a BA flight due to Heathrow Express breakdowns and been rebooked free of charge.
BA doesn't have a flat tyre rule. That's an american thing. They can sometimes be flexible if you give them advance notice. I have rung up while on the motorway (for clarity this was while I was GGL) knowing that I was going to miss my flight on an inflexible ticket and been rebooked for reasons over which I had no control. It is very much a goodwill thing though.
