This is a ridiculous statement. Without knowing what exactly the problem was, there is no way to determine if being open-source and straight HTML would have been better.
Even open source straight HTML can have bugs introduced by developers that can inhibit the ability for the program to function properly. And if it were something like a database corruption, then no implementation of the front-end would have any affect to make it work right.
That's great that your entire office's back end is open-source and has been running so long. I also have an original Mac 128k from over 30 years ago that is still running, perhaps I should also suggest if they ran that system it would have worked?
