They do things like get in at midnight and leave at 6:00 AM, and the crew is working like a very long sit in a city. They get a hotel room for the short overnight.
I recall UAX or USX doing something similar at DAY when I was flying there a lot, probably in the 2004-2008 timeframe ... the crew would start their duty day at the hub with the last flight (typically arriving DAY between 2330 and 0015), have a "layover" of 5 to 6 hours, and be back at the hub by ~0730 ... while the sunrise departures from DAY were nice in terms of getting back to DC, or on to wherever, I was always a bit skeptical of just how alert and well-rested (as opposed to well-caffeinated) the crew might be
