Rapidairs are a very different type of flight for AC, so flight changes are treated differently than other flights. This is why AC "markets" Rapidair flights separately from other flights in their network.
When I missed my flight leaving the YVR Do, the agent simply gave me another BP for the first flight out the following day, no fee.
I have seen this happen before on a few occasions, but I have also seen people being asked for their credit card to pay for the change, so YMMV.
I suspect being asked to pay will have to do with time of day and seat availability on certain flights. I have seen a couple of cases where the missed flight just keeps getting pushed to the next flight on a stand-by basis, and I have seen days where the last flight out is grossly oversold.
So, it's up to you if you want to roll the dice - how lucky do you feel?
