Hopefully not everyone has done all their voting, because I haven't yet answered the questions posed on thread #1:
Experience?
My background experience includes bartending and rocket science. I'm also captain of my hockey team.
Travel and FT experience: I've been a frequent flier for about 5 years and have been a FT member for about 2 years now. I participate very actively in posting, chat, and get-togethers.
What would moderators be doing?
Preferably nothing. Ideally, there shouldn't be any need for them. Alas, occasionally something is wildly mis-posted or tempers flare. So, their job description should be: moving topics to proper forums, administering shots of demerol, klunking head together ala Moe and ending unquenchable flame wars.
Would you impose limits?
Not hard ones. The auto-censor already takes care of those naughty words no one likes to see. Otherwise, the world is gray.
Would you impose standards or require consistency?
People are usually pretty quick to advise folks when they've really crossed some line, therefore I don't really see the need to unless something truly extreme is posted.
How would you deal with complaints or accusations of abuse?
The same way I do on the ice when things get abusive. Use common sense. Reason with people. If all else fails, administer a savage beating.
What do you think would the ideal format for FlyerTalk? (i.e. a Philosphy of how a community like this should be organized)
It's great the way it is now. We try new things from time to time. When they work, we keep them, when they don't, we scrap them.
How structured should this format be?
Two words: "Extreme Freeform"
How would you support that format?
"Give the People What They Want" (as long as we can afford it!)
One candidate talked of improved growth management. What does this mean to you?
Servers get overloaded. Hard drives fill up. It's a funds issue. By virtue of my experience with work and hockey, I am very good at managing trade-offs. There are obvious ways to trim resource demand like no multiple handles, minimized multiple posts. Then, it's really a matter of what the budget will support and how to increase that budget if the need arises. NO FT TAXES!!! (There, now like chexfan, I too have a platform)
I really like FT and would be pleased to serve on the Talk Board.
