I'm resurrecting a semi-dead thread, but seems like the best place to discuss Hertz in Italy!

I'm trying to figure out what to book for a week and a half family trip this summer and the group definitions are throwing me for a bit of a loop. We'll be 2 adults & a toddler, so that's 2 large & 1 large suitcase plus a stroller. I'm picking up at a smaller in-town location in Rome (near Vatican City) and dropping off at MXP.

Group D: Fiat 500L
Group E: Ford C-Max
Group F: Ford Grand C-Max

The C-Max (group E) looks ideal on paper, as the stated capacity is 2 large suitcases and 2 small suitcases. I am a little concerned about trunk capacity especially when factoring in carry-ons, food, case of wine, etc. In North America I would be happy with an intermediate/mid-size car but in this case I'm concerned that we'll end up with a 500L or find the C-Max too small. I would rather not get a Group F euro-minivan if I can help it as it seems like massive overkill, also not exactly a sporty ride.

I also looked at Europcar and their mid-size options (Giulietta or similar) have more style, but trunk capacity appears to be a little on the small side- the Giuletta is only rated for 2 suitcases according to Europcar.

Based on your experience, what do you think is the best way to go?
