Indeed, there are still some opportunities to earn status miles for little money, although less and less over the past few years. But as also my primary goal is to go from A to B in reasonable comfort and without adding unnecessary segments to my itineraries, I would be interested how much others spend on average to obtain 10k status miles?
As for 'trouble_', my spendings (in CHF) per earned 10k status miles (exec bonus included) have been in the same ballpark over the past 4 years:
Y 2012: 1686 CHF
Y 2013: 1716 CHF
Y 2014: 2740 CHF
Y 2015: 1720 CHF
(all flights ex-GVA, 35-50 segments per year, 90% LX and LH flights, 4-6 transcont. RTs in 'discounted' C (half in P, half in Z), intra-EU flights all in 'cheap' Y)
