It is very unlikely that she would be #13/12 and have 0 volunteers even it is 24 hrs out (This is not X'mas or volcanic eruptions).
I don't even know that you can actually purchase a standby ticket as a revenue pax unless she does SDS.
Worst case alternative is see if they can rebook into different hubs. ie. XXX-ATL-YYY to XXX-DTW-YYY. And make sure they request wheelchair for her on her new flights.
