Yes I have done this many times.

Until recently I did not have a "good" contact number for AA so this was my preferred route for a complex AA itinerary.

Some folks have said the line will not accommodate this any more. I don't know why. If necessary, hang up and try again.

For interest, BA has authority to issue e-tickets including travel on the following carriers---
