For what it's worth: I live in Cyprus here the currency is the Euro. If I go to the Turkish-occupied area of Cyprus (TRNC), the currency is Turkish Lira. Most businesses in the TRNC accept both currencies. But the rate of exchange for Euros to TRY at the businesses is not the same as if you used a credit card or exchanged your Euros to TRY at an exchange office or if you withdrew from an ATM (it is less favorable). So I never pay with Euros; I either use a credit card or TRY (obtained from an ATM).
