Well you just got two extra days I guess.. Or revert to the original plan.

Sold out means there's no possible way on a single leg. I don't ever recall seeing this though. On a multi leg they just show unavailable if either leg is sold out.

One could try a custom connection through another city unless it's International.

If it's an International leg they don't normally oversell those. Yet the domestic connecting leg could be.
