Huh, what I have heard is elites complain that non-status flyers are offered buy-ups at checkin while they languish on the list. I haven't been a UA elite in a dozen years or more so I don't pay a lot of attention.

While there are complaints at AA lately about upgrading, they aren't about the request ordering for the most part. The upgrade processor does kick in at various times and their buy-up rules specifically state that they aren't offered if there are any outstanding upgrade requests. The problem at AA is they sell out the cabin so often on some routes. Sounds like what I read here about SEA-EWR and the like. Also smaller cabins on new 319s and 321s on the AA side, with 8-seat 319s replacing 16-seat S80s and 16-seat 321s replacing 24-seat 752s.
