Why is it unfair preferential treatment to try to make sure that families are seated together? Or is it fair to the passenger seated next to a 7 year old six rows from the nearest parent. It is kind of the Scandinavian fair, everybody needs to have the same opportunity to be miserable. I know as a traveller I prefer these things settled way before the gate, so gate staff and crew don't have to try to solve the situation sometimes leading to delays or chaotic boarding. And if someone then gets a benefit I don't, my Scandinavian soul is not hurt.
It encourages people to bring children or opt for SK over airlines that do not provide it, which is not something that should be encouraged. At the very least there is no good reason to provide it free of charge. Nothing against people bringing children but it really shouldn't be dressed up, they also get boarding ahead of business and elites.
It has nothing to do with the Scandinavian equality nonsense which I completely agree with is absurd and childish.
