I'm about to book a flight to Sydney and many more to southeast asia. I wouldn't want the opportunity of earning points to go to waste.
When I was a working student (so a bit different case) I had a MBNA SPG MasterCard (at the time it wasn't with Amex), and a CIBC Aerogold. For your case, maybe a Aerogold Classic, but it all depends on your spend. If you spend a lot, it might be worth paying for a CC but I don't know of many university students who do pay for a card though. To each their own.
