Otherwise there is a new storage company at LAX. I don't recall the name, but it costs about $6 or $7 to store a bag up to 24 hours, though I'm not sure how they feel about short term storage. Otherwise, given the usual flight delays and crowds, 6 hours isn't a lot of time to go anywhere cheap around LAX.
Second the advice - rent a car for cheap, it shouldn't be that expensive. I've done this before for a similar-length layover in LAX. That said, go to a rental place that will get you in and out quickly...I used Fox the time I did and burned way too much time waiting for the desk agent to get me set up with my ride.
