I am traveling this week to the East Coast - AA metal outbound, US metal return on 001 ticket. Now that I have LT PLT on AA, I am trying to earn status on AS without sacrificing upgrade opportunities, premium seating.

As an AA PLT (and EXP last year), my upgrade success on US metal has been dismal. If first shows checked in full on the US flights at T-24, will it be possible to switch mileage accrual to AS, without losing my exit row seats? If yes, how can this be done? My thought is to try to change the AA record prior to departure online, or ask the AA Admiral's Club agent to do so. In the unlikely event an upgrade goes through, can I attempt the same process? Is there a strategy for AA metal?
