I have done this about 25 times without an issue and usually never wait more than 5-10 mins for a pick up after reaching the hotel or parking lot.
I've had success just moving my pin location to outside of LAX proper, then calling the UberX driver to explain that I'm actually at Terminal X. Worked more often than not.fff
