If you looked at a room plan it wouldn't have seemed so bad but the angle of the roof contrived to make it feel really claustrophobic and cell like. The lack of windows didn't help and there was continued loud noise from a group of noisy seagulls directly outside the single small prison like window. The seagulls did however help to drown out the considerable street noise and the clear sound of a normal conversation in the room next door through paper thin walls.

I don't see how you could give a plat such a poor room when there are 6 floors to choose from. I wouldn't expect an upgrade as a Plat but I wouldn't expect one of the worst rooms either. We were staying for a fun weekend away so I decided to cut my losses rather than stay in a room I thought was unacceptable and just would have annoyed me for the whole weekend.

The indigo was good. The rooms aren't large but are much less claustrophobic. The bar is good and the free minibar (beer, wine and soft drinks) is also very good. IHG Plat recognition was immediate and I was given one of the best rooms rather than apparently one of the worst. I would recommend the Indigo highly. To come full circle though breakfast there wasn't great.
