It depends where you stay and what you are looking for. Limited service Hilton properties provide more consistent and better service than Marriott. I prefer HGI's breakfast over Courtyard. It is the other way around for full service properties. Marriott has more executive lounges, and the offerings in them are usually better than the Hilton counterparts.

Marriott excludes resorts from the free breakfast for gold and platinum members. There are also some hotels that do not have to provide free breakfast on weekends when the club lounge is closed. The free breakfast at Marriott is always continental, although some properties allow a full breakfast when the lounge is closed on weekends. Marriott will never let non-resort properties designate a free breakfast as a pastry, a coffee, and a piece of fruit for elite members.

The complimentary Internet benefit at Marriott is much better than at Hilton. It applies for gold and platinum members, and you can use up to six devices for free at the fastest speed versus only three devices at Hilton for diamond members.
