DUI 20+ years ago. Still get GE?

I DID search and try to find similar threads, but most of them had to do with 'current' convictions. And yes, it was a conviction (no contest) but was roughly 25 years ago.

From what I've read here DUI is a no-no for GE, but as long as you are honest it may be OK.

It is not an issue traveling in the US, or going to about any other country for that matter -- no issues with Canada, for example -- never had a problem.

However, from what I've read on here CBP has a way deeper reach than typical enforcement agencies.

Other than Canada, only fly international a couple of times a year.

So my question is would it be a waste of money ($100) to apply for GE, and maybe just pay for TSA pre-check? Better off with TSA pre-check?

Currently have pre-check via my airline, but having it actually 'work' is getting less effective.

Thanks.
