Sounds like the PH is the better option for me but I'm certainly happy to hear other opinions.
Taxis from GH to touristy things wouldn't be too much. 5-6 bucks maybe. Korean taxis are quite cheap compared to other cities around the world and you can see more above ground. Line 2 is the most popular Seoul subway line so it can get quite cramped at peak hours but you're on the line with everything from Gangnam to Hongdae to City Hall.
