This is because "Points and Points" is an earning style which has zero effect on your hotel benefits. The option that affects your benefits at different brands is under MyWay Hotel Benefits. At higher end hotels, Diamond members would get both points and freebies. But at the lower end ones like Hampton Inns, even Diamond member can only pick one or the other. So if your selection is 250 points for Hampton Inn, most FDC (who follows instructions) would only give you the 250 points. You may get lucky from time to time and get both. BTW, 250 points is worth less than $1 for me, so my MyWay preference for Hampton Inn is 1 bottle of water and 1 snack.
