I think you have found your answer. Many Hampton customers that post on FT are content with whatever nothing they are given. They enjoy wiping their ... on sandpaper and blowing their nose on imitation facial tissue.

Brand standards is what I believe to be the culprit. Brand standards prevents them from giving water + points. Same goes for the cheap paper products in bathroom. Along the way, the hotel is not spending as much money as they did in the past. For $179/night you might think you deserve better.
