Being 9 for 2 or 3 seats is sadly not that uncommon. I was there on a U Fare on Monday's ATL-DEN flight. Heck, I have been at 5-6+ out of MCO this year on a couple of occasions.

With the OP's spend, I find it surprising that they aren't at least buying up fares.
