The Uber application won't allow UberX pickups within a designated radius of LAX. Just take a courtesy shuttle to a hotel or parking lot and call for UberX when you are on the shuttle.

I have done this about 25 times without an issue and usually never wait more than 5-10 mins for a pick up after reaching the hotel or parking lot.
