And I like and enjoy the following platinum benefits regularly over the gold ones (repeating myself here):
-Partner platinum card through American Express
-Free seat plus
-Most bonus miles
-Dedicated and very efficient platinum helpdesk
+1
Plus lounge access and luggage allowance.

I am happy with what I have. And wouldn't feel worse off or downgraded or have a jealousy attack if someone else got more benefits with a card that is more difficult to "earn". I don't need it, just like you. But not needing it myself does not mean that I am opposed to others having it.

There is no DOWN-colouring. "Down" implies "less". You keep the same benefits, just that the colour your card has today could in the future be used for something else and your card changes colour. Yes, indeed, shocking, you would no longer be the highest tier in the program, so you are suddenly a "lesser" customer compared to others who fly even more and attain a higher status tier.
Just out of curiosity: is it the gold colour you feel is inferior or do you feel miserable because someone else might have a higher status than you do now? If we gave you a Gold card for life, but with
more benefits than you have today (e.g. use of Premiere lounge for any flight and guaranteed upgrade), and there is a new Platinum level which you can attain by flying much more - would you still be unhappy and talk about DOWN-colouring, even though you have more actual benefits? Not judging, just asking.

Have a good day.

1) Do you REALLY think they need us to have such an idea?
2) April 1st 2008 was about making the program worse and taking away benefits. What I had written is not taking away anything (except changing the colour of the card, which some might feel is taking away something away from you), but merely changing the packaging.
