Why didn't you just put your bag in the bin instead of gate checking it???
I assume by bin you mean overhead bin, and by gate check you mean 'checked to final'. Gate check is the pink tag for CRJ's, etc.
I don't know that it really matters to the original question, but there was a tight connection and it was a CRJ so I didn't want to worry about waiting for the bag. As it was I just got to the connection gate to board with Sky Priority.
