Virgin Hotel Chicago Review

Not sure if there is a master thread, so a mod may have to move this.

Stayed here for one night this past weekend. Overall is was an VERY nice stay. The hotel is brand new and well thought out in my opinion. Signed up for “The Know” before hand and answered all the questions - they had a bag of my favorite candy and a hand written note in the room we walked in. Check in was little odd in that I checked in using the app and was hoping to try the automated feature for room keys, but was stopped by an Andaz like host wielding an iPad who was right in front of the kiosk. She noted my Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America FF #’s and asked me what level I was for each. Not sure what comes out of that. Hotel reminded me a lot of Kimpton, which is funny because they are right next door to the Monaco. The Chambers are very cool. Hardwood floor through out, plenty of space. Fully stocked mini bar with exceptionally reasonable prices. All the signage is basically a sexual double entendre. There’s is happy hour in the Common’s Club from 6-7 on the 2nd floor. This includes open bar for everything. Not just beer and wine. I had a Broad Shoulders, one of their specialty bourbon cocktails that has black truffle in it. It was exceptional. Hopefully they can sustain the happy hour and it’s not just something they are doing now while they are band new. They do in fact have a house car, a red Tesla, but it just sat out front with temporary Illinois tags. We were told it only operates from 4-8pm. The gym is on the 25th floor and very nice with all new equipment obviously. We had heard there was a rooftop lounge on the 26th floor so pressed up to check it out. The elevator had an employee on it who was also going to 26, otherwise, I don’t think out keys would have allowed us up there. They had had a Friends and Family soft opening the night before and it was not open for guests yet - we were told April 25. There were several signs that said don’t spoil our surprise and post pictures on social media, so I respected that and took none. I will say though that it looks very cool. Used the app to order room service for a late night snack. I only had a few mozzarella sticks which were good, girlfriend said the burger was great, but it’s a massive portion. It arrived quick too - probably 15 minutes after ordering. The TV on the giant wall looks small in comparison, but at night when you're in bed and it's on it's perfectly fine.

My only complaint is the L train. When we checked in my reservation note said high floor, away from L noise and I believe they did their best to accommodate. It was still super loud, even with the earplugs they provided.
