Ignore what UA says. Your baggage allowance is 40 kg per *G passenger and 20 kg for non-status passenger. You can split this up in however many bags you want.
TK is also known for not being terribly strict on bag weight.
So your advise was dead on.
We had four bags that weighed 59.2. kg (that was chance not my careful pre-weighing of bags). The agent was confused but got on the phone and spoke to someone and then smiled and said "Okay".
A better test would have been if we were at 61.5 or something, of course. But i was not traveling to test things.
