We had a terrible time of it last year in a hotel in Milan that gave us a wheelchair accessible room that . . . wasn't. You couldn't get the door open from the inside if you were sitting in a wheelchair, as there wasn't enough room. There wasn't enough room for a wheelchair (and I travel with a small, collapsible, transport wheelchair) on either side of the bed. As my husband pointed out, there was barely room for his (6', 200 lb.) frame (he slid in sideways), let alone a wheelchair. The bathroom had a roll in shower, but the design was a disaster: the entire bathroom would flood in under a minute of having the shower turned on, so my husband would have to remove my wheelchair from the bathroom while I showered. We are not talking floors a bit wet. We are talking serious flooding, with water having nowhere to go, and having to ask for dozens of towels each day just to dry the bathroom floor enough to (1) get out of the bathroom safely and (2) keep the room below us from flooding (we hoped). Very poor design.
