I have done that, but for whatever reason, was advised to not do that.
Calling Delta is just not that big of a deal.
Someone I know tried that on SM intl ticket for a minor against my advise. After the denied check in and payment of UM fees and extra SM for higher cost ticket next day decide that it was not worth it if he had the choice to do it over.
