Some of the choice comes down to how focused you are on certain types of art vs. the view and grounds.
The panoramic views of the Los Angeles basin from the Getty Center are pretty spectacular too.

The Visit the Getty site has a comparison between the two museums and introductory videos.

Personally, while I like and enjoy both, I think that the Villa is the more unique of the two.
