What you should have said was that you had a duo seat; lost it (for some unexplained reason); and now want it back.
The duo seats have been regarded as seat plus since at least
last September though this concept has been rolled out gradually over the last few months to more destinations, with the entire network now covered. As such, for those routes where these duo seats exist (they are not on all plane types), you would now have to pay for them.
I'm still not sure who moved your seat assignments - or why - but these seats now require payment, so you would have to appeal to Expedia (if they are the ones that overwrote your seat assignment) to pay the fee on your behalf to move you back there.
But I think you won't have much luck with that!

1. If you had already selected them, for free, then the chances are you would still have had those seats, for free, at check-in if you hadn't voluntarily elected to move out of those seats.
2. If you don't pay, you will be able to select from the available seats at check-in. As long as there are "free" seats available, you would be expected to pay for any Seat Plus.

Why on earth would moving you out of the seats have helped? You already had those seats...you shouldn't have moved.
The Seat Plus payment is an optional extra between you and Air France - Expedia won't want to get involved. Once those seats were freed up, it will require payment to select them again.
