The decline and disappointment with Conde' Nast Traveler Magazine

I have been a charter subscriber to Conde Nast Traveler since it's first issue. I cherish it's arrival each month and read it cover to cover.

Two years ago the magazine changed. I noticed the articles were clustered towards the back of the issue. The editorial content was almost impossible to distinguish between stories and ads. Fashion location shoots suddenly became a focus and some of the basic information columns were deleted or dramatically cut back (ie. the popular Perrin Ombudsman).

Now I page through it and in 5 minutes I am done.

I wrote several letters to the editor over the last year or so registering my dismay at the direction the magazine was heading. From cutting edge to mundane. Ad heavy, editorial light. Even their font and masthead changed losing its distinct look.

I finally got an letter from the editor last week after canceling my subscription. They admitted that the parent company has reformatted the magazine to " meet the needs of its readers" by focusing on " lifestyle" .

That says it all....how disappointing that the excitement of travel cannot sustain the readership of what was an iconic travel magazine.
