Actually no status or honours sign up is needed to pull this "refuse to leave room" trick where one has rights under local state laws to do so. I 'd really love his first night to be so impacted and to get a basic room.
As a HHD I am sure he can ring hotel and ask for revenue manager to allow diamond force for 2night stay at one of the higher end rooms. Chances are lower type rooms are oversold and hotel has to give free upgrades so hotel will happily sell rooms and walk someone with no status.
