First time in LA, only have time to visit either of them. The visit will be in the morning we leave LA and heading on the HWY1. Travelling as a couple.

I was leaning towards the Getty Villa because on the map it looks like it's "on the way" and the Getty Center is in Brentwood which looks like a detour if our general direction is LA->Santa Barbara.

However, Tripadvisor has the Getty Center as its #1 attraction in LA and basically all the travel guides say "don't miss the Getty". Has anyone visited both and can offer an opinion? Also, will visiting the Getty Center really be a major detour if travelling from Hollywood towards Santa Barbara?
