I have a question for those who has done this or have knowledge about it. I have a basic Amex HHonors card that is upgradeable to the Surpass for 50k with $3K spend in 3 months. My question is will I be charged the annual fee if I upgrade or is that a freebie? As there is a current offer of 80K for $3K/3 months spend right now, if I still have to pay AF to upgrade might as well just apply for the 80K.
