many countries didn't get the iphone 6 or 6 plus at launch and still haven't.. also, the 5s was/is always cheaper than nearly any 6 or 6 plus so the price focussed buyer may buy one instead of the other. The volume of 5s to 6 or 6s in other countries I would think is going to be several multiples compared to the USA/NA multiple..

Why would you assume this is from "other" countries? There's no data on that, but I know from anecdotal evidence and from my local Orange store here in France that after the initial burst of iPhone 6 sales that the 5s is outselling the 6 now. It's due to both the price and the quality of the 5s and like the article said, this has never happened before with previous iPhone releases. Obviously because the newer iPhones were always significantly better. Til now.
