By your reasoning, AC shouldn't even post a schedule with times. They should just say "we have X flights we plan to have go to YVR on this date. Pick one and it will leave at some point. Make sure to bring plenty of money for food or beverages, as the flight could leave early in the morning or late at night."
Why should a $6 dollar sandwich anywhere else cost $13 because it's an airport? Yes, you can say it's a captive market or whatever. Bottom line, AC should probably offer differing amounts based on regional disparities. It's unacceptable that the amount they offer may just be enough at one restaurant in the terminal (in this case, Tim's, which I apparently missed).
Do they do this with hotel vouchers? No. It's still the fault of the airline that you need a hotel, yet you get a hotel room paid for in full regardless of the market. How would you feel if they gave you a $100 dollar hotel voucher for NYC, saying it should cover a room because that's the amount they offer in Winnipeg?
