Worth trying a 60 min connection at LHR T5?

Hi all,
I know questions about connection times at LHR come up all the time, but I'd like to get some feedback on whether I'm being overly cautious. I'll be traveling IAD-LHR connecting to LHR-ARN in Y in early June. I'm seeing a set of flights with a 60 minute connect time (arrive T5 6:50am, depart T5 7:50am). I could, alternatively take the next flight to ARN, which gives me a 2 hr 20 minute layover.

I've connected in LHR 4 times in the past year, but on at least 2 occasions my incoming flight was late, and I found myself running desperately through the terminal after a long wait at security. As such, I'm leaning towards taking the later flight to give myself some cushion, but I also don't want to be silly and spend more time at LHR than necessary.

So I'd value any opinions on whether I'm should try for the 60 minutes, or be safe and go with the 2hr 20 min. If I were sure I'd be able to get rebooked on the second flight LHR-ARN if I miss the first connection, I'd just do that, but I worry that the second flight might be full, in which case I end up hanging around LHR even longer...

thanks for your advice!
