My interests are pretty simple, a beach cottage would be fine (though AC would be nice), snorkeling, fishing, sailing maybe, good local cooking, a visit to local parks/animal watching/hiking, places to have a pint (which is why the Maldives is out; I am not interested in the costs involved with a high-end resort and if you're not on a resort island, alcohol is forbidden- if it wasn't I'd probably consider a stay on the non-resort islands). It's on a trip where I'll end up in Bangkok in a higher-end hotel, so being someplace pleasant but not opulent for this part of my trip is fine. To give you an idea... when on Bali I ended up in Lovina at Rambutan, far away from the high-end resorts in Nusa Dua and thought it was fine (heck, who knows, if I can find CX award space, maybe I'll go back instead of going to Sri Lanka)...
