In my travels with family usually my kids I simply request a connecting room or room nearby/same floor. I can't recall a Hyatt that hasn't supported this request, whether as a paying customer or points redemption and they have always upgraded both rooms. Over the new year the PHV in Paris upgraded 3 rooms for me as well as providing breakfast for the 3 rooms. So as you say seems like the GH is not being very accommodating.
This has also been my experience at other Hyatt's when I booked multiple rooms (never more than two).

Just finished a multi-room stay at this hotel. Manager greeted me and my two travel companions when we arrived and took us to check-in on the seventeenth floor. Wonderful service, wonderful food in the lounge, beyond awesome pool and gym complex and tremendous location. Zero problem with noise.
