So why do you want to reach Gold this year? Just to say you've been there and done that?

From your post it sounds like your work travel pattern will see reduced usage of BA/OneWorld, so if this is the case, what's the point in spending a pile of cash to reach Gold. I would only consider this if I thought I was going to get some real benefit from it.
