Do they usually offer good service to Diamonds?
One month prior to check-in and judging from the communication of the club staff I really don’t feel they’re going out of their way to make me feel welcome. Or maybe I’m expecting too much.

I’m taking my parents to Beijing. As location is more essential than luxury on this trip I opted for the GH over the PH.
At first I wanted to get into a Two-Bedroom Suite which would have been perfect for us as a family. Booked a room for 3-adults using the C+P rate and inquired with the hotel about using a DSU. Was told that the upgrade is to a Grand Club Suite only and that I’d have to pay the full difference in price to further upgrade into a Two-Bedroom Club Suite. Fair enough.
Since the price difference was a quite high I preferred to simply book two rooms (double occupancy). I applied a DSU (for my parents, of course) and contacted the hotel again. I was informed that the second room (which would be used by me) will not be upgraded unless I’d pay 800CNY+15% per night (~150$). Right.
Now, the thing is, the hotel is working by the book: DSUs are for Diamonds only, so technically it’s not OK for me to upgrade my parents even when I’m staying with them in the hotel. And since I’m supposed to be in the suite - my parents, who have no status with Hyatt, should not get an upgrade from the Grand King room.
So I can’t really complain here… but… in my experience hotels tend to be much more accommodating to Diamonds - let alone when the member is contacting the hotel in advance, indicating the importance of the stay and actually bringing in good business (on this occasion: 10 room-nights).
It’s not so much about getting the second room upgraded as well - but rather about the how robotic the communication with the hotel is, and how I feel non-valued for the first time with Hyatt.
What do you guys think? Am I expecting too much here? Is this a common treatment in this hotel? Any advice?
