Can we travel to Japan on a passport that will expire in less than 6 months?

Here's my concern. I am thinking about a trip to Japan this summer with my kids. Their passports expire in November. I would usually get it renewed soon, but my oldest will turn 16 this September , and that would mean his passport will expire in 10 years. Can they travel in July with a passport that will expire in November? It sounds like it won't be an issue.
